Advance Directives

As of July 1990, Georgians are able to utilize two different documents to express to their health care providers their wishes regarding their health care should they become unconscious or otherwise unable to convey their wishes. The Living Will enables a patient to direct that "life-sustaining procedures" be withheld or withdrawn, and a Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care enables a patient to appoint a third party to make health care decisions in the event the patient cannot.

Each of these documents is explained in greater detail in the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, Title 31, or contact your personal attorney. Additional information is available through Patient Relations at extension 2798.
