Baby Safety Seminar Gives New and Expecting Parents Tools for Bringing Up Baby

Dr. Melissa McGinnis explains ways to avoid SIDS.

They burp, scream, spit up and coo…through the good times as well as the bad, it is difficult not to love babies. For new and expecting parents, infant safety is of prime concern. North Fulton Regional Hospital recognizes this concern and recently responded in order to provide tips and tools for these parents to aid them in caring for these precious little loved ones.

September is National Baby Safety Month, and this year, North Fulton Regional Hospital celebrated by offering a Baby Safety Seminar. Geared toward both new and expecting parents alike, the free seminar addressed pertinent issues including Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), immunizations, car safety and safety in the home.

Drs. Melissa McGinnis, Glouzel Glodener and Roy Benaroch (each North Fulton Regional Hospital Pediatricians) and Dr. Jeremy Khan (a North Fulton Regional Hospital
Pediatric Cardiologist) added valuable insight to the program as they served on a panel and discussed the various ways to keep infants safe. Safe Kids Fulton County, a non-profit organization dedicated to preventing accidental injury in children, was also in attendance, demonstrating proper car seat operation using dolls and different types of car seats.

“Seminars such as these are beneficial for new parents,” Perinatal Education Coordinator Debbie Bickes said. “We are committed to relating new information based on updated research and practice for expectant parents in our community”. As safety is a focus for the hospital as a whole, Maternity Services at North Fulton Regional Hospital strive to narrow the scope to mothers and their babies in order to deliver the best possible care and customer service.

North Fulton Regional Hospital (NFRH), part of Tenet Georgia, is a 167-bed, acute-care hospital located on Highway 9, Alpharetta Highway, in Roswell.
