New Patient Tower to Expand North Fulton Regional Hospital's Capacity

Construction of the new patient tower of North Fulton Regional Hospital

No doubt if you have driven by North Fulton Regional Hospital, you probably have noticed the tell-tale signs of construction.  The hospital continues to grow physically and technologically to meet the needs of an ever evolving population, and with the addition of a new patient tower, we will be better prepared to do just that.

Scheduled to open in early 2008, the new, three-level patient tower and related renovation to the existing facility will add 35 beds to the hospital, increasing capacity from 167 to 202 beds.  The first floor will house new OR suites and an expanded post anesthesia care unit.  On the second floor, a 28-bed critical care unit will combine the current Intensive Care, Critical Care and Neuro Intensive Care units.

“The combination of these three critical care units should provide greater efficiency within the hospital, allowing us to deliver higher quality care to patients,” Said Katja Bryant, Director of Neurosciences.

As North Fulton Regional Hospital continues to grow and evolve beyond the current facility, we strive to make our existing space modern and fresh.  The new patient tower and the relocation of several units within the current facility free up space within the hospital.

The following updates are happening within the current hospital:

  • New medical/surgical beds will occupy the existing second floor along with a new Dialysis Unit.
  • The classrooms that once resided on the second floor are now located just inside the main entrance on the lower level across from the parking deck, making them not only new but also easier to find.
  • The Sleep Disorders Center, currently located on the first floor of the hospital, is expanding and moving into the Medical Arts Center, adjacent to the hospital.  “This expansion pairs our current high-quality sleep studies with a much greater home-like environment. While physicians will continue to receive service of the highest caliber, patients should have a more comfortable experience,” said Pat Moorhead, Director of Rehabilitation Services.
  • The Maternity unit now has a fresh look.  The existing postpartum rooms, labor and delivery rooms and nursery have been refurbished to reflect a more contemporary look.
  • A completely renovated cafeteria allows for a relaxing dining experience, complete with hardwood floors and a new name.  So the next time you are visiting North Fulton Regional Hospital, stop in for some refreshment at the Azalea Café.
