Young Teens Molded Into Future Babysitters at NFRH

Joanna Stotter
June 2, 2008

You want to teach your children responsibility; you want them to feel confident and independent; you want your young teen to learn the value of a dollar. Perhaps babysitting could help.

A popular job for pre-teens and teenagers, babysitting is a valuable way for growing girls and boys to learn skills that they can apply to their everyday lives. It serves to teach responsibility as it is often a teen’s first experience earning his or her own money, and it provides a sense of “job security” as there is always a need for babysitters.

North Fulton Regional Hospital offers babysitting courses for those between the ages of 11 and 14. This course serves as a valuable pre-requisite for the budding babysitter as it provides a sense of comfort in the minds of parents who will be leaving their children in the capable hands of your teen. It will provide your children with a knowledge in basic child care, accident prevention, medical emergencies, entertainment ideas, home & fire safety, the 911 system and more. Instruction is also given as to how to secure babysitting jobs, and each participant receives a certificate of completion as well as a wallet card.

Classes take place on various Saturdays and Sundays throughout the month. The next offering will be on Saturday, June 28 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The cost for the course is $25.00 per child. To register for an upcoming babysitting course, call (770) 751-2660 or click here and search "community education."  Classes are offered on a regular basis.
